Got some free time this summer? We are expecting the largest incoming class of international students ever this fall, and they need your help! If you are willing to spend
some time helping new students get their
bearings as they arrive in Berkeley, please complete our Volunteer Application Form and send it via email to Kevin Long at kevinlong@berkeley.edu.
There are many exciting ways you can make a difference for a new student!
Create Your Own Activities!
New students will begin arriving around August 3, and they need friends and stuff to do! From August 3rd to August 21st, volunteers are needed to organize and lead groups on activities around Berkeley, San Francisco and the Bay Area. Other than orientation events listed on our application form (that you can sign up for), we also welcome your ideas! This is your chance to be creative, make new friends and help new international students become familiar with the campus and the Bay Area. We recommend that you take into consideration international students’ budgets when deciding on the event because none of the activities are financed by BIO.
Some ideas for activities you can initiate include a “My Favorite Places” Tour, Movie Night, Bowling, Farmer’s Market, Volleyball, Triple Rock Brewery, Coffee Hour/Tea Time, Basketball, Ice Cream Social, Shopping Trip, Picnic at Golden Gate Park, Tilden Park etc. Ultimately, YOU know best what students want to do!
Fill out the Volunteer Application Form with your activity idea. An Adviser at BIO will review your application and contact you if your activity is selected. We can assist you with some of the planning, implementation and promotion.
